Nope, it's around 3,50... per litre. The 50 cents are just the latest of the 3 or 4 increases in price we've had over the last couple months. Premium gas is well over 4 reais per litre nowadays.

Oh yeah, not only they increased gas prices, they also increased the amount of alcohol in all types of gasoline to 27%. My Fiat may not live to see another year on these conditions...

BTW, let me explain a little better the story:

As Blaze said, gas over here is about R$3,50 per liter (doing some conversions - $4 per gallon approximately), and a group of people went to make a protest against it in a gas station, asking to get R$0,50 cents, paying with credit/debit cards and asking for the fiscal note (yes, we don't get that automatically!), in other words, making the life of the gas station owner and workers a living hell!

About 5 or 6 cars later, the worker fill the car with not R$.50, but R$50,00! the people started complaining, of course! The worker (and owner, I guess) them said he would not fill no more with R$0,50.

A kid with about 16 years, start making a ruckus, the guy drawn a .38 and shot him twice, killing him! In a event that should be celebrated (Blaze and the other brazilians over here can atest to this), the guy was caught right handed and arrested!

Sorry! even the ethanol over here is overpriced R$2.90 per liter or about $3,80 per gallon!

And if you managed to buy a nice car, you have to use only premium gas, that cost something like $6/gal
